CHINA INLAND MISSION

SPREADING CHRISTIANITY

In Free China young Chinese were being trained to spread the Christian teachings throughout the country after the war, said Bishop F. Houghton, director, of the China Inland Mission, in describing the work of the mission to a congregation in St. David's Church last night. There were over three-quarters of a million Christians _ among the Chinese people, he said. The China Inland Mission was international as well as interdenominational, and the missionaries were drawn from 14 to 15 nationalities. A group of missionaries was interned by the Japanese, and the larger part of the mission staff was now out of China.

Bishop Houghton, in company with his wife and the home director for the mission for Australia and New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Embery, was welcomed by the chairman of the New Zealand council of the mission, Mr. S. Barrie.
