SUPPLY OF TYRES
. DIFFICULT POSITION NEED FOR CONSERVATION "Owing to the uncertainty of the supply position for both .car and truck tyres over the past few months, it is imperative that existing stocks be conserved to the utmost to carry us over the very difficult period which, in all probability, will be the worst we have been called on to face," stated a letter read at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland District Council of Primary Production from the acting-director of the P'ields Division, Department of Agriculture. This position, it was further stated, had been brought about through a world-wide shortage of carbon black, an essential ingredient used in the manufacture of tyres, and had necessitated a severe restriction on new tyre issues. It was mentioned that at this stage it would not be necessary to curtail retreading or recapping facilities, so that advantage should be taken of this avenue whenever possible.
