STEVENS BEATS McCANN P.A. DUNEDIN, Monday. After outboxlng his opponent to lead on poiiKs over the first eight rounds, Jack McCann (Wellington), list lost by a technical knock-out to Roy Stevens (Auckland), list 51b, in the last round of a 12-round professional contest, which opened the season at the Town Hall to-night. There was an attendance of about 2500. The eleventh round ended sensationally. After being down for a count of seven, McCann was floored again just before the gong. His second climbed Into the ring and the referee, who stated subsequently that he did not hear the gong and thought that the towel had been thrown in, lifted Stevens' hand as the winner. After an explanation, however, the fight continued, but McCann was again sent to the canvas twice, the referee stopping the bout.
