WOMEN'S CRICKET

UPSET BY TRAINING COLLEGE • A big upset in last Saturday's women's cricket matches occurred whan Training College defeated the championship leaders A.L.H.A. This was made possible by a great innings by V. Robinson, who, for the second week in succession, opened the batting and was undefeated. This time her tally was 54 not out, of her side's total of 97. R. Wilcox and J. Davies held their ends up well in making eight apiece. For ~A.L.H.A. J. de Berry took four for 31 and M. Eaddy three for 18. L, Wetherill and L. Askew were shaping confidently for A.L.H.A. when the latter skied one to square leg, where V. Laws held a good catch. The next wicket fell with no addition to the score of five, but I. Lundie, A.L.H.A.'s skipper, played solidly and had scored 13 when she fell a victim to V. Robinson. The Collegians' fielding was very smart and the end came soon after, A.L.H.A. batting three short. The score was 32. Z. Lawrence taking two for 1 and V. Robinson two for 3. The game on No. 1 wicket was not without incident, for North Shore secured a six-pointer over Akarana, which was without the services of its skipper, R. McKenzie. and four others. Shore batted first, S. Foote making a bright 15 before being caught off C. Hamer, and H. Thompson found the bowling to her liking, and at tea adjournment had made- 87 not out, her partner, J. Vivian, being 21 not out. Shore declared with two down for 153. On the resumption of play the nippy fielding and accurate bowling resulted in the absolute collapse of Akarana,- the side being dismissed for but six runs. H. Thompson-took two for 5, S. Foote one for 1, and D. Simons one for 0, a feature of the innings being a fine tnrow by H. Thompson from the deep field to dismiss J. Addis. In the follow on, N. Cliffe and J. Addis made a stand, the former making 14, before being caught by H. Price off E. Simmonds. C. Hamer made 10 and the total was 43. R. Cadness took two for 8 and T. Bond one for 3. In the intermediate grade, Berlei defeated North Shore by seven runs after an exciting gam>. Berlei made 58 (J. Shoebridge 46, A. Redfern four for 10, P. Lambley three for 10).
