INTER-CLUB TENNIS
CLOSE HARDCOURT CONTESTS The success of West End in winning both the flret and Junior hardcourt Jlnals, and the narrow escape of Parnell from defeat by Campbell Park in. the championship grade at Stanley Street were features of last Saturday's inter-club tennis contests. Results were:—Grass.—Championship Grade: Pamell drew with Campbell Park, flve rubbers each, 12 sets to 11.. First Grade: Parnell beat University, nine rubbers to one. St. Heller's won from Takapuna by default. Hardcourt.—First Grade Final: West End beat United, flve rubbers each, 12 sets each, 109 games to 108. Second Grade: Mount Roskiil beat Mount Eden, five rubbers each, 13 sets to 12; Hallyburton Johnstone beat Surrey, six rubbers to two. Third Grade: Ngatarintra beat Papatoetoe, six rubbers to four; Dunholme beat Surrey, nine rubbers to one; Mount Roskiil beat Mount Eden, seven rubbers to three. Junior Grade Final: West End beat Mount Eden, flve rubbers each, 14 sets to 11. The championship grade Is now in a very interesting position, with Parnell and Campbell Park level with -three points each, but the former ahead on a count baok by two sets. Campbell Park metis Heine Bay on Saturday and Parnell is matched with St. Heller's the following week. It will depend upon the result ol these contests a« to which club will become this year's challenger on March 3 against Eden-Epsom for the Caro Memorial Bowl. The grass court first and second grade finals will be staged at Stanley Street on Saturday, the teams in each instance being Eden-Epsom v. Parnell.
