SOLDIERS ON FARMS

BIG MORTGAGE PROBLEM

"The placing of soldiers on land with a big mortgage at full interest rates is unworkable," declared Mr. H. B. Keane at a meeting of the Auckland District Council of Primary Production to-day, in referring to the rehabilitation of servicemen. If men were going to be settled on farms on this basis, he pi'edicted that the position would be even worse than the soldier settlement after the last war. Citing the cases of two men in the Waiuku distrirt who had been placed on 45-acre dairy farms with mortgages of about £5000, Mr.,Keane said that unless these men experienced a great deal of luck they would not succeed in their ventures. "The trouble after the last war was that many men who had no experience were put on to farms," said Mr. C. S. McCallum.
