INHERITED COURAGE
Advice received from Sydney states that the Defaulter —Merry Miss colt, bred by Mr. E. Steele and bought by Mr. J. T. Jamieson on behalf of Mr. H. E. Tancred at the 1913 National Yearling Sales, having his third start, forced his way through the field in a race at Rosehill on July 8 to finish a close third. The manner in which the colt came through the field was pleasing and was reminiscent of the same characteristic of Defaulter in his races. Apparently the Merry Miss colt has inherited from his sire this distinctive mark of courage which always identified Defaulter.
