Luxford, S.M in the Police Court to-day and pleaded guiltj. Detective-Sergeant Kearney said that on July 1 Bridges had been found by Detective Mathieson in possession of type set up for printing lottery tickets known as tote tickets." These tickets were sold and the first prize was won if the holder had the ticket containing the last three numbers of the totalisator return at a race meeting. There -were other minor prizes. Bridges said he printed 4000 tickets for one race meeting, but he refused to disclose the name of the person for whom he printed them. Tong, who represented defendant, said Bridges merely printed the tickets in his spare time and had no financial interest in the lottery. Detective-Sergeant Kearney said that when seen by Detective Mahood defendant said he was selling "tote tickets for a bookmaker, and that he received 2d for every ticket sold Elia would not disclose the name of the principal. There was no suggestion that defendant had been in any way dishonest. "It appears to be quite a new branch in the bookmaking business," remarked the magistrate, who fined Elia £5.
