METHODIST MISSION
A further £22,000 is required to rebuild the Methodist Central Mission in Airedale Street free of debt, it was reported at the quarterly meeting of the mission, presided over by the superintendent, the Rev. A. Everil Orr. So far the fund had reached, in promises and donations, £28,000.
The value of the proposed new building in providing spiritual and social amenities for many of the young people of the city was stressed. It was reported that the Astley House for elderly women was meeting an urgent need, but demands necessitated its extension and funds were required for this purpose. The health camp and rest home at Campbell's Bay was in continuous use. Thirty-six men associated with the mission were with the armed forces, and those overseas were sent parcels periodically. Appreciation was expressed for the work of llr. Orr. the Rev. Arthur Mitchell, and the staff.
