OBITUARY
MR. L. A. BACHELDER Mr. Leonard Axigustus Bachelder, who had been in the United States Consular Service for over 60 years, and was vice-Consul in Auckland for nearly 40 years, has died at Pokeno at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Stanley Symes. He was,aged 89. Born at Salem, Massachusetts, Mr. Bachelder was manager of an American firm in the East when he was 2L He was United States Consul at Aden and at Zanzibar. He came to Auckland in 1891, and was appointed viceConsul for the United States shortly after his arrival.
Mr. Bachelder, who was the oldest Consul in the American service, and had the longest record of service, is survived by one daughter and one son.
