TOPICAL COMMENT

BRED TO WIN Green Note, a winner at Winton, has possibilities as a sprinter. She is by Paper Money from Green Dart, a mare by Last Dart from Green Isle. Maniopoto (by Soult) won an A.J.C. Metropolitan, was the sire of Green Isle, whose dam was by Waiuku from a Nordenfeldt mare. Waiuku won a New Zealand Cup, and the Thompson Handicap thrice, the last time with 10.3. A PROMISING 'CHASER When Double Light, making his first appearance in a race, was beaten by GoM Robe in the Winton Steeplechase, W. E. Hazlett just failed to score his fourth successive win «in the race. In the thi ee preceding years he had been successful with Colonel Rouge, Anglo-French and Noko. The event was practically a duel between Heidelberg and Gold Robe. They both jumped well except for one mistake. Heidelberg tired in the last three furlongs, and Double Light beat him in the run home. HIPPODROME SOLD The sale was made last week of Hippodrome to Mr. P. Hayvice, Wellington. Hippodrome is a four-year-old gelding by Ringmaster from» Drax, dam he St. Leeer winner, Spiral. He was bred by Mr G. M. Currie, and has . been raced bv Mr. T. Hurley, Wanganui, as a two-vear-old, and since then by Messrs. M. Bonthorne, Petcne, and A. Pope, Wellington. His only win-this season was scored in a division of the Levin Champion Hack Handicap. At Trentham in January he was beaten a head in the Douro Handicap.
