SUCCESSFUL SEASON

RUGBY LEAGUE

THE 34TH ANNUAL REPORT

Last season was the most successful the Auckland Rugby League had experlenced since the outbreak of war, and the thirty-fourth report and balance-sheet, to be presented to the annual meeting on March 28, states that from a financial point of view the League is making steady progress. The total assets are £10,785, from which must be deducted liabilities amounting to £1519. Assets show an increase of £42, and liabillties a decrease of £416. The surplus, for the season was £223. . . ;■ ;

An" increase of £4320 in- revenue, resulted from better -attendances, moie matches and greater rent, from the hire of Carlaw Park during the off-season. Congratulations are extended to the Manukau senior team on its feat in capturing all five major trophies, the Fox Memorial, Roope. Rooster, Stormont Shield, Rukutai Shield- as first round winners, and' Thistle Cup >as. the result of an unbeaten second round. The report pays tribute tc> the on behalf of the Referees' 'Association of the president, Mr. L. E. Bull,- who was unanimously elected to this position the ninth successive year. ■ •. Watson, said that a conference of the-League's subsidiary bodies had beep held, matters connected with the coae had been discussed and a report would be made to the new. board. It was anticipated that there would be good entries for all competitions, ana there were definite indications,that plenty of players would be available. March would be the closing date for nomination of senior teams, and it was anticipated that a start would be made with the pre liminary round on April 15. Mr. Watson added that representative matches during the season were under discussion. .
