SALE OF CROUPIER
Mr. J. M. McGill. Remuera, who is setting, up a thoroughbred stud at Panmure near the old Sylvia Park Stud, has purchased the stallion Croupier from Mr. R. J. Murphy, Wellington. Croupier is 15 years old, and since his retirement from racing has been under the care of T. R. George, first at BrenUvood and later at the Rosswood Stud, Masterton. With limited opportunities Croupier has sired many useful horses. including The Monarch, Madame Rachel, Voltaire, Cherry's Ticket. Tavoy, Pay Roll, The Raker Lotto, Kadina, Te Marua, Rouletlma Wee Bun, High Play (runner-up jn this year's Derby), Ink Spot (second best two-year-old to date in the Auckland province), and the recent Woodville winner Master Baron. Croupier represents the male line of St. Simon through Surveyor Nassau and William the Third. He won 12 races, including the Wanganui Guineas, W.R.C. Harcourt Cup Wainui Handicap, Canterbury Jockey Club Handicap (in record time) and the Criterion Handicap and Cashmere Plate also at Riccarton. He was trained by George for the late Mr. J. J- Corry, and was the subiect of a sensational seizure on behalf of his breeder at a Riccarton meeting. Subsequent litigation prevented him from racing as a four-year-old, after which lie was bought by Mr. Murphy.
