THEFT OF FROCKS
MINER GETS PROBATION
A charge of stealing four frocks, valued at £15 12/6, on May 18, was admitted by a miner, Henry Savage (24), when he appeared before Mi. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Sub-Inspector Harley said Savage entered a shop and stole the four frocks from a rack and later disposed of one frock to a dealer for 13/. The frocks had been recovered. "He is a single man and he is wanted by the army for being absent without leave," added Mr. Harley. "Although not drunk Savage had taken liquor on the day he committed the theft." . _ On behalf of the accused, Mr. Garland said the theft was a clumsy one committed by Savage while i under the influence .of drink, so clumsy, in fact, that he c&rried the frocks from the shop on his arm. The magistrate admitted Savage to probation for two years.
