NO STREET APPEAL
FUNDS FOR SAILORS' HOME
An invitation from the Auckland City Council to the Sailors' Hume Council to attend a meeting to be held in the Town Hall shortly to discuss street appeals for this year was declined by the council of the Sailors' Home yesterday afternoon. The president, the Hon. C. J. Carrington, said that last year the council of the home combined with the Y.M.C.A., but they had not had street appeals in other years. Mr. E. H. Potter, in expressing the opinion that the council should send a representative to the meeting, said he was sure the people of Auckland would respond generously if an appeal were made. In supporting him, Mr. G. W. Sanders said the council was not justified in turning down any opportunity to obtain funds for the sailors. The votes were equally divided and the president then gave his casting vote against the invitation being accepted.
