BUSH FIRE FIGHTING
WORK OF ARMY PRAISED
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. Appreciation of what the army had done in. co-operating with the Lands Department in fighting the Northland bush and grass fires, was expressed by the Minister of Agn : culture, Mr. Barclay, in Whangarei to-day The soldiers had given wonderful service in protecting forests and reserves, as well as private holdings, Mr. Barclay saidA further outbreak of the Ruakaka fire necessitated the calling out of troops again to-day. Water is being carried a considerable distance to ensure the final extinction of the fire.
