PLANES FOR CHINA
U.S. Vice-President Emphasises Urgency STRIKE AT JAPAN'S BACK DOOR Rec. 11.30. WASHINGTON, Feb. 9. "The day will come when we will have sufficient planes .in China to permit the United Nations to strike regularly at the heart of Japan," declared the Vice-President, Mr. Henry Wallace, addressing a luncheon of the Institute of Pacific Relations. "Patience is necessary," he added, "but we. hope that planes, in addition to words, will very soon be going to China." Remarks in other speeches, states the Herald-Tribune, reflected an undercurrent of criticism of the United States for ignoring the Chinese mission, which had been in America several months. Mr. James Curley, Democratic representative, addressing the House of Representatives, urged that an adequate supply of planes and other materials be sent to China "The war against the Japanese could be ended in six months if America went in at the back door," he said.
