EMPLOYMENT SCOPE
JAP. PRISONERS IN N.Z. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The scope of the employment of Japanese war prisoners in cabinetmaking and other trades was defined to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, who stated that misapprehension had arisen in some quarters as to the nature of the work these men would be engaged in. The Minister stated that it was not proposfid actually to train the prisoners, but to utilise their services in these types of work to supply many forms of equipment which were urgently needed in military hospitals and other armed forces' establishments. None of the equipment produced would in any way interfere with our own industry which, with the heavy demands that were expected, should be fully engaged for many years to come.
