Desmond Hill 'Lewis, only son or Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lewis, of 4, Domain Drive, Parnell, has been granted a commission in the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve. Sub-Lieutenant Lewis was with the minesweepers in New Zealand waters for over, two years before he left in February, 1942, to join the Fleet Air Arm. He was transferred to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. in October. Aged 26, he was educated at the Palmerston North Boys' High School, Christchurch Boys' High School and Geraldine High School.
