NEW CREMATORIUM
The City Council has decided upon erecting a new crematorium at Waikumete. The general public are closely interested in tiiis matter and should reasonably have a say in its location. Waikumete is about ten miles from the city, and it appears wrong that a 20-mile journey, with the consequent unnecessary transport costs, should be perpetuated. When the crematorium was started it was not used very frequently, but it now is. Correspondents have already drawn attention and have suggested the use of the Symonds Street cemetery sites and the erection of a building, modern, complete and efficient. Now is the time to have the matter properly considered and thus to avoid the condemnation of present and future generations. S. ROBERTS.
