SLIGHTLY MIXED
\\ hat is the correct definition of the term "coastal waters?" My reason for making this inquiry is tnat in the April issue of the journal Overseas, a copy of which an English friend has been good enough to post me, there is a brief account of the recovery of the gold from the R.M.S. Niagara, which you will remember sank near the entrance to Whangarei harbour in June, 1940. The article m Overseas tells its readers that the Niagara sank in Australian waters; it that is so then coastal waters certainly extend beyond the three mile limit. We are also told in the sa^je artlc^e that the value of the nnAnnn ec ° ve r ed was some £250,000,000 sterling. If my memorv is not at fault, I believe it was somewhere about, or rather less - 00,000 —a not inconsiderable difference. Wm. H. LEE.
