PROMPT ACTION
RAILWAY DELAY SHORTENED
The d lallment at Mercer of the engine which was to draw the 6.04 train to Auckland this morning resulted in the train reaching the city .'53 minutes behind time. Another engine from a goods train near Te Kauwhata was used in place of the derailed one, and the train eventually left Mercer about 7.30 a.m. In order to avoid delay to suburban passengers, the ilallway Department arranged for a special train to proceed from Otahuhu to Papakura, and from there pick up the passengers which would normally have been carried by the Mercer train. By this means the delay to these passengers was reduced to fifteen minutes.
