NEW POTATOES OFFERED
Lettuce was in good supply at the city markets to-day. quality lines realising high prices. Cabbage and cauliflower, in fair supply, made good prices. Asparagus was slightly easier. Keen competition existed for carrots and pumpkins, selling at nxed prices. A lew more new potatoes were onerea. For tree tomatoes there was inquirv lor choice coloured Iruii. A lew local sweet oranges were selling. Prices were:—
Vegetables.—Asparagus. 8d to 12 per bundle. Beet. 4/ to 7 per case: Celery, cooking. 1 6 to - per bundle; dessert. 2 6 to 5 ner bundle. Carrots, up to 21 per cv. t. Cauliflowers. 7 to i- per sack. Cabbages. 6 to 14 per sack, r renen beans and stringless beans, hothouse, lu to 6 per lb. Green peas. 16to 2 6 per lb. Kumaras. Tauranga. 36 per cwt. Leeks. 6d to 1 3 per bundle. Fruit.—Apples: Delicious. 15 6 to 17 6 per case: Sturmer. 12 6 to 15 6 per case: Doueherty. 14 6 to 16/ per case. Pears: P. Barry, 20 per case. Tomatoes: Hothouse, choice. 2 to 3 : verv small. 1/ to 16 per lb. Oranges: Local. 25 to 34 per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black. 26' to 32 per case. Grapefruit: New Zealand, choice clean. 14 to 18/ per case; small and others. 6 to 12' per case.
Feujtry.—The supply was medium and the demand was fair. The prires remained unchanged. Selling rates were: Cockerels, heavy breeds. 7 to 8 each: not prime. 4 to 6 each: licht breeds, prime. 5/ to 6 ; not prime. 3 6 to 5- each. Fat hens, heavy breeds. 6 6 to 8' each; light breec's. 4 6 to 6/ each. Laying hens, heavy breeds, 5 to 10/ each; light breeds. 4 to 7 6 each. Pullets, heavy breeds, best. 6 to 8 each; smaller. 5/ up. Drclr-c, young, prime. 6' each; smaller. 5/ each. Ducks, young, 10/ each; old, 5/ each. V 4
Eggs. Butter, Flowers.—Eggs. hen. standard, IW2 per dozen; duck, standard. I/BV2 per dozen. Farmers' butter, 1 2 per lb. Cut flowers: Flowers were in short supply. The demand was keen and some very high prices were realised.
