MOUNT EDEN IS VICTORIOUS: NOW LEADER OP THE COMPETITION ! By defeating Training College on Saturday Mount Eden lakes pride of place in the first round of the championships. Technical accounted for University in an uninteresting game, while Wesley experienced its first win by defeating North Shore. Mount Eden (3) v. Training College (l). —This was easily the best game witnessed this round. Training College began aggressively, testing Eden's defence, McManus and Huddell, on both wings, playing inspiring hockey. A hard shot by Coldham, centre forward, was well saved by Eden's goalie. A turn by the "browns" saw McCutcheon net for Eden, no further score being registered at half-time: Mount Eden 1, College 0. Play recommenced with changed formation in both teams. The teachers scored early, Bryant finding the net: Mount Eden 1, Training College 1. A run on the right, and Corringham made no mistake with her shot, making Eden two. Back came the "browns," Cameron with a hard shot and a good follow-in netted: Mt. Eden 3. Training College 1. Cameron (centre forward) was outstanding. Goals were scored for Eden by Cameron, McCutcheon and Corringham; for Training College by Bryant. Wesley (1) v. North Shore <*).—The suburban side, with only nine players, held Wesley throughout. The "greens" had many chances but larked circle finish, Cunningham playing a good fullback game and upsetting many forward movements executed by Shore. There was no score at half-time. In the second spell Simpson netted for Wesley, this being the only goal of the game. L. Fletcher, for Shore, played a sterling game, and is without doubt the best half-back seen out this season. Oooder proved a reliable back. Technical (3) v. University (2). —Neither team impreased in this match, and the standard of hockey all through was poor. Thompson, in goal, brought off some good saves for "Tech," while P. Melford, full-back for 'Varsity, played her usual steady game. Goals were scored for Technical by Owens (2) and McKenzie; for University, by Braithwaite and Bilkey.
