TROTTING

REMARKABLE RECORD Since his retirement from the American tracks home very interesting statistics have been compiled from Greyhound's career. His fastest first quarter was 28is, second 28Js, third 2735, and fourth 2bjs. Ihe great trotter's fastest first half-mile was 563s and the same for his fastest second half. Greyhound trotted four separate miles in 1.56 and fastest six in 1.'57 and faster, 11 in 1.58 and faster, and 14 in 1.5!> and faster. He is also credited with 24 miles ,in 2.0 and faster. 34 in 2.1 and faster, and 46 in 2.2 and faster. When he trotted his mile and a half in 3.2J he was credited with the last half in 59is. AUSTRALIAN* TROTTEK When White Globe came to New Zealand early in the .season, it was generally anticipated that she would keep the best of the Dominion talent busy in the highclass trotting events at the November meeting. Evidently she had not got over the change of climate, for she did not race, nor was she produced at Addington last month. There can be no doubt as to the Australian mare's credentials, and hopes are entertained that trainer Noble may have her right for August engagements. AX UNLUCKY' PACER Twelve months ago Kenworthy wound up a successful season in the north by such a brilliant win in the Fergusson Handicap at Auckland as to make his future prospects look good. He started off well by earning place money at the August, meeting, and his second in the Hannah Memorial Handicap at Oamaru brought him into favour for the Trotting Cup. The great effort he put up behind Josedale Grattan was one of the features of that race. Evidently it took all the Mod out of Kenworthy, for in all his subsequent efforts he has failed to reproduce it. He went a fair race in the big two mile event, at the Canterbury Park meeting. hut since then has raced like a back number. Even so it is pleasing to note that the Auckland-owned pacer has picked up £705 in place money without winning a race. LATEST IMPORTATION Mr. J. R. McKenzie has done a great deal to enrich the New Zealand Trotting Stud Book by importations from the United States, but the full value of his efforts will not be fully known until the next volume of the Trotting Stud Book makes its appearance. One of his latest importations is Light Brigade, a son of Volomite (2.3J) from Spinster, by Spencer (1.503). Volomite and Spencer are two of the leading sires in the United Stat«. THOROUGHBRED BLOOD Wherever there is an infusion of thoroughbred blood at the base of a light harness pedigree, the fact seems unworthy of mention, although some of the best, such as Harold Logan, trace to thoroughbred mares. Any reference to Thelma, one of the greatest fountains of success, almost invariably halts when it comes to the interesting foundation of her pedigree. Thelma was a daughter of Pride of Lincoln, a thoroughbred mare by Touchstone, a son of Malton, an imported stallion who left his mark amongst the thoroughbreds. He got Belle of the Isle, the dam of Templeton (a winner of two Tlunedin Cups and an Auckland Clip), and other mares that have bred on. Malton also got Malabar, the winner of the New Zealand Derby in 1870.
