WAR SERVICE
POLICE APPEALS In reference to a number of appeals in respect of police officers heard by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board on April 2S, an intimation has been received that the appeals were made by the Department, and not by the men personally. Since the war at least -12 members of the Police Force have voluntarily joined up with the army, navy and air force. Some of these were given leave by the Department because their services were specially required by the armed forces. Others resigned and gave up all superannuation benefits because of their desire to serve their country. On March 13 last police force emergency regulations were. gazetted. The effect of these regulations was to make it an offence for any member of the police force to resign his office unless expressly authorised in writing to do so by the Minister in charge of the police force. It will therefore be seen that the men on whose behalf the Department recently made application for exemption arc entirely in the hands of the Department.
