RIDING INSTRUCTION
SCHOOL FOR APPRENTICES Following reports received showing the benefits derived by a large number of apprentices who had received instruction Mr. L. G. Morris and the late Mr. S. J. Reid, the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Racing Owners, Breeders and Trainers' Association at a meeting last evening decided to set up a committee to go into the matter of forming a school of instruction in riding and otlier blanches of the sport. The following were appointed a committee:—Messrs. J. M. Buchanan, R. S. Bagby, F. Smith, H. E. Gray, S. G. Lindsay and H. Goldfinch. As the result of a discussion on the necessity for winter training facilities at Takanini. Messrs. C. M. Emanuel, F. Smith, H. E. Gray and C. Morse were appointed a deputation to wait on the trustees of Takanini Tracks. Limited. The dearth of race meetings in Auckland during the winter months was touched on by several members, and it was unanimously agreed to ask the Te Aroha Jockey Club to consider utilising the Poverty Bay permit for a winter meeting, preferably in July. The secretary reported that a request for the declaration of handicaps and acceptances to be held over until after a preceding meeting had been acceded to by many clubs in the North Island. A large number nlso supported the proposal of the association to ask the Racine Conference to give starters discretionary power in the matter of a flat-footed or walk-up start.
