MR. A. D. POLLOCK.
Well-known throughout the middle North, Mr. Alexander Dunsmore Pollock, of Maromaku, died at the Kawakawa Hospital yesterday. He was in his 82nd year and was the last surviving member of the pioneer family of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pollock. His eldest brother Tom was reputed to be the first white child born in Whangarei. Mr. Pollock spent his early days at Drury, where his parents were farming. Later he came North to esigage in bush work and other occupations, particularly in the Northern Wairoa and Mangakahia districts. For many years he owned a dairy farm at Parakao, where he was among the first European settlers. He was keenly interested in racing and owned several horses which he entered at country meetings.
