CAR LEAVES ROAD.
CAREERS DOWN BANK. OCCUPANTS' LUCKY ESCAPE.
OTHER WEEK-END MISHAPS.
A fortunate escape from serious injury was experienced yesterday afternoon by the three occupants of a large saloon motor car which ran off the road near Westfield and The car, which was being driven in a southerly direction on the Great South Road, skidded on the greasy surface, careered to the right-hand side of the road, mounted the low parapet wall and ran down a steep embankment to crash violently into a bluegum tree.
The car was driven by Mr. H. A. Broadbent, of 4, Elgar Street, Epsom, and he, with his wife and child, crawled clear of the wreckage suffering only minor abrasions and shock. They were taken to their home by a passing car.
The car came to rest at an angle, with the left wheels and running-board jammed against the tree trunk at a height of about three feet from the ground. One branch of the tree was snapped like a twig by the crash, while a post and wire fence at the foot of the bank were levelled.
