MR. RICHARD W. WHITE.
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Richard W. White, in his 93rd year. Born at Awaroa, Waiheke Island, Mr. White was probably the last of the early c ntraetors for harbour works in Auckland. After a short spell at the ship building trade, Mr. White joined in the Thames gold rush, but without any notable success.
On his return to Auckland, Mr. White commenced contracting in the Auckland province, building the wharves at Stanley Bay, Rangitoto and St. Helier's Bay. and also taking contracts for a large amount of railway construction work between Hamilton and Te Aroha. He retired from business in 1921.
Keenly interested in Church affair?, Mr White was for 14 years a member of the vestry of St. Matthew's Church. He is survived by one son, three daughters and there are several grandchildren.
