ROTORUA'S PRIDE.
NEW MUNICIPAL BLOCK.
TO BE OPENED, NEXT MONTH
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
ROTORUA, this day.
The large new block of buildings at present in course of erection on the Rotorua Town Square is now neaving completion. The building includes'' a municipal picture theatre, borough offices, library, museum and concert chamber, and is of attractive, modern design, with a loggia entrance. Expenditure upon the building was raised by means of a loan of £40,000. Finishing work upon the exterior and interior of the building, together with ■the installation of furnishings, is now being carried out, and the building is to be officially opened on July 26 by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan.
The theatre will be one of the most modern in New Zealand, while the concert chamber will fill a long-felt want in Rotorua and will provide a means of staging Maori concerts, and also provide accommodation for any visiting com • panics. The block is one of the most ambitious undertakings carried out by any municipality in New Zealand, and is designed to be self-supporting, in that it is expected that the revenue from the theatre and concert chamber will pay the interest and sinking .fund charges upon the loan.
