NO ERROR.
POLICE WHARF CONTROL. SUPERINTENDENT'S DENIAI*. "So far as the police are concerned, no error wa* made during the past weekend or since," said Mr. J. Cummings, Superintendent of Police, yesterday, in discuc-eing the strict system of control of the Auckland wharves. Superintendent Cummings also said that since the police took over the control of the wharves at Auckland on Friday last, in terms of the new regulations recently gazetted, the wharves have been closed to all persons who had no legitimate business there. There was no truth in the published report that the wharves were closed in error laet Saturday. He added that no "erson was allowed on board a steamer without a permit, and very good reasons had to be given by the applicant why he should be given a permit by the police. Sightseers were not allowed on the wharves at any time. When the wharves were open, no one ■ without a permit could secure entry to them. The regulations had been properly enforced to keep unauthorised persons away from the wharves, both day and night.
