FOR EMERGENCY.
LOCAL BODIES CONFER. PROPOSALS INVOLVE £31,230. Local authorities in the Auckland district arc to be asked to make available three sums amounting to £31,258 for the furtherance of the emergency precautions scheme. A decision to this eftcct was made at a meeting of mayors and chairmen of local bodies last night, Sir Ernest Davis presiding over an attendance of 22, which included Mr. A. (J. Harper, ivlio representeed the Department of Internal Affairs. One of the recommendations was that £8500 he made available for items required for the establishment of auxiliary hospitals, advance dressing and first-aid posts. The Metropolitan Fire Board estimated that £12,758 would he needed for essential plant and equipment for the operation of an emergency scheme. A suggestion is to be made that half-of these two amounts be raised by a levy spread over metropolitan ties. An allocation of £10,000 is suggested for emergency stations and works, including an amount of £740 for the distribution to about 80,000 householders of a booklet containing instructions in the event of any emergency. A decision to proceed with the appointing of wardens and sub-wardens and the use of man-power over the metropolitan area was also made, and another meeting t"> conclude these arrangements will be held next Monday, June 24.
