FINE WIN BY WANGANUI CREW.
INTERPROYINCIAL EIGHTS. ARAHOHO CHAMPIONS. ALL OTHERS OVERSHADOWED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, Saturday. Setting a steady stroke at the outset. Aramoho crew, of Wanganui, the New Zealand champion eight, overshadowed Wellington, Auckland and Otago to win the interprovincial eight-oar championship in remarkably fast time. Although they won by the comfortable margin of three lengths, they never looked like, being overtaken once the race got under way, and finished fresh and with plenty in hand. They hit a steady 32 at the outset, and maintained it throughout the entire two and three-quarter miles, keeping up a beautifully timed powerful stroke against which the quicker bladework of Wellington was of no avail. Only at one stage did Wellington seriously attempt to overtake Aramoho, but this effort was short-lived and Wellington eight concentrated on shaking off an Otago challenge. Otago rowed as a crew, showing good combination and bladework, and maintained a steady pace with the exception of one bad patch. They seriously threatened Wellington for second honours about a quarter of a mile from home, but Wellington replied with rer.ewed energy and had five lengths in hand at the finish. Auckland kept handy to otago and Wellington for the greater part of the journey, but faded out rather badly towards the finish. Conditions on the harbour were ideal, with scarcely a ripple on the water and no wind, and the race proved a fair test of merit of the crews competing.
