FRESH APPEAL.
Conference On Australian Coal Dispute. THREAT OF GENERAL STRIKE. SYDNEY, February 22. A fresli appeal for a conference on the coal dispute was made to-day to the colliery proprietors by combined mining unions, who threaten a general strike at the end of the month. The colliery proprietors are not likely to reply before the week-end, but in today's daily newspapers the latter set out the history of the dispute, together ■with a precis of the correspondence between the parties.
Reports from some of the northern fields indicate that the miners are weakening and do not want a repetition of the troubles following the last strike in 1027. when a large number of men were victimised in addition to being defeated.
