MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. The Mount Roskill Road Board met last night, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McC'ullough, presiding. Universal Conscription.—ln reply to a request front the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Defence League for an expression of opinion on universal conscription, the chairman, Mr. C. M. McCullough said it was not open for the board to express an opinion on the subject as it was outside the board's jurisdiction. It was for the Government to deal with the question. A resolution to that effect was adopted unanimously. ! Public Morgue.—Proposals were submitted by the City Council in reference to contributions from the metropolitan area towards the maintenance of the morgue at the Auckland Hospital. The board's contribution would be- approximately £4 per annum. The finance committee will report on the proposals at the next meeting of the board. Health Act Proceedings.—The board was advised that when a resident was proceeded against for committing an offence against section 44 of the Health Act, the Magistrate's Court had adjourned the case

for two months. This action wu taken to ascertain the board's attitude towards a request made by the defendant while submitting an application for a. building permit. In the meantime the resident in question applied to the board for permission to reside in a temporary structure in place of the original premises, which had been destroyed. He also enclosed plans of a new building proposed to be erected. The board decided that the plans and specifications submitted did not comply with the by-law and that the applicant be given notice thereof, and that a permit would not be granted aa requested, and that a fresh closing order would be applied for.

Drainage Fees.—The finance committee will report on the action of the Housing Construction Department in declining to meet the board's charge* for drainage connection fees.

New Buildings.—The inspector reported that there were 23 private buildings in course of -erection in the district, in addition to 62 houses by the State Housing Department. Permits for new buildings worth £11,869 had been issued during the past fortnight.

Finance.—The general account was reported to be in credit £6233 10/3 with £2000 at call. Accounts amounting to £2580 were passed for payment, includ: in/ hospital levy £821 16/. water account £980 14'2 and loan interest charges, sundry £274 14/.
