THEFT OF BENZINE.
FARM EANDV OFFENCE. ~ * (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAEKOA, Tuesday. Two young farm hands, Edwasd Pickering and Claude Frederick Mitchell, were charged before Messrs. W. A. Turktagton and G. G. Griffiths, J.P.'f, m the Matarnata Court with stealing nine gallons of benzine, a four-gallon drum and a four-gallon bucket, the property of Mr. J. W. Guest, farmer of Wardville. Thev pleaded guilty. It was stated that Pickering, who had only recently arrived in the district, had taken Mitchell in his car and visited a party at Wardville. On the way home they had committed the theft. Everything had been recovered except the bucket. The Bench pointed out the seriousness of the offence, in view of the restrictions on petrol. Pickering,- who • had several previous conviction?, was sentenced to one month in gaol, while Mitchell was convicted and ordered to pay 17/6, the cost of the bucket.
