IN FIRST EVENT. GREEK. QUEEN'S SUCCESS. WIN IN HACK CUP. Starting at a good price Bronze Emerald scored in a tight finish in the Trial Handicap, the opening event at the Thames Jockey Club's meeting to-day. The favourite, Merry Vauls, went a slashing race, being beaten by half a head only. > The weather was fine and the attendance large, while tho track whs in excellent order. Hunter's Night then lost his positioii and Bronze Emerald led into the straight from Boyal Fawkes, Merry Vaals, Hunter's Night, lady Clorane and Whenua, and in a great finish Bronze Emerald got the verdict from Merry Vaals by half a head, with Boyal Fawkes a head away. ' Lornacre, Who wns plnced recently in i a race at Ellerslie, showed his best form < for a long timo when to-day he won the Flying Handicap after heing never further back than third. In the straight he took charge to win well. Trilliarcli and Corato also recorded their lxst efforts for some time to fill the places behind the winner. Mnxam, the favourite, was slow away and was always racing at the rear of the field. Miss To Koura and Lornacro were the early leaders nnd Miss To Koura, after a couple of furlongs, was showing the way to Trilliarcli, Lornacre and Foxmond. Baeing across tho top the order was J Miss Te Koura, Trilliarcli, Lornacre, Fox- K inond, Corato, Brazen Bold, Tosh, Maxam and Anion. Half way down the straight Lornacre took charge to win nicely from Trilliarcli, with Corato only a neck away. Miss Tc Koura was fourth and was followed by Brazen Bold and Foxmond, with Maxam last.
