OPENING DAY AT THAMES.
BRONZE EMERALD'S FIRST WIN. DAUBER LEADS ALL THE WAY IN HURDLES. Making his debut as a hurdler, the Takanini-trained Dauber beat a useful field pointless in the Maramarua Hurdles at the Thames Jockey Club's meeting, which opened to-day in fine weather. The course was in good order. At one stage of the race Dauber was ten lengths in front and he really gave nothing a chance. Bronze Emerald took the Trial Handicap in a tight finish with Merry Vaals and Royal Fawkes, the judge s decision being half a head and a head. Bronze Emerald returned a good price on the win machine. Maxam, a solid favourite in the Flying, settled her prospects by getting away slowly, and she ran last. Brazen Bold and Foxmond, also well supported, finished outside the money, the winner turning up in Lornacre, who returned a fine price.
