"SLACK SUITS."

CANADIAN MEN'S DRESS. UNIFORMS MORE COMFORTABLE. OTTAWA, December 28. The emancipation of Canadian men in respect to their clot hi n<; appears to be in sijrlit. During the jms-t summer the "wliN'k suit,"' c<iii!«i«tii!g of a jwir of loose trousers and shirt to match, sained considerable |>opiilHi'ity in sporting and informal social gntln'rinpn. The slack suit eliminates the wearing of coat and waistcon t. and the neck of the shirt i» left open. With Canada's entry into the war a further >tep designed for the comfort of men is tlie new uniform adopted for the Canadian troops. This uniform, to be worn by officers and men alike, is similar in many respects to the "slack suit." It consists of a khaki serge blouse with belted waist and buttoned cuif. The trousers, likewise of khaki serge, are equipped with three buttons and a small tab at the bottom, so that they may be folded over and bound with a small six-inch canvas gaiter. No brass buttons will be worn. Officers' uniforms will be of similar pattern, with worsted rank badges. Better grade material may be u«ed. Inasmuch as officers of horsed units alone are now allowed to wear swords, the Sam Browne belt is being discarded by other officers and replaced by cloth belts made of material to match the uniform. The carrying of regimental or other types of canes and whips has likewise gone into the discard by official orders.
