The British Expeditionary Force headquarters in V ranee report that a heavy snowfall in the British sector is preventing any surprise offensive. I'lk' lust few days have been a period of lively anticipation. Cancellation of leave was only one of a number of precautions. The tension has now eased, although the stand-by continues. The troops are awaiting developments calmly. A British patrol from the Maginot Line sector engaged a German patrol in No Mini's Laud last night. At least one German was killed and his body brought back to tho British lines. The British suffered no casualties. British patrols are now o|>erating nightly. Three German detachments attacked a French patrol lying in ambush in the hope of taking prisoners. The French repulsed the attack and retired without loss.
