CONN BEATS COOPER.
NOW IN LINE FOR BOUT WITH LOUIS. NEW YORK. January 10. Billy Conn, world's light heavy-weight champion, defeated Henry Cooper, a Brooklyn heavy-weight, on points in a bout staged to test the fitness of Conn to meet Joe Louis. In spite of the allegations by Harry Thomas that he and Galento had fought a "fixed" bout, the New York Boxing Commission, at a turbulent meeting, ruled that Galento may fight Max Baer in a contest of 15 rounds on March 4 for the Finnish Relief Fund. The commission, however, refused Joe Jacobs a license to act as Galento's second or manager, whereupon Galento and Jacobs declared, "The fight's off."
