MAORI SUSPECT REMANDED.

Following the complaint made bv a Chinese that he was assaulted as" he entered hie whare at Panmure shortly after midday yesterday, a young Maori was caught by two men and handed into the custody of the Newmarket police. The Chinese, Juen-r Hinjr, a market gardener, was treated in the casualty department at the Auckland Hospital, and after having stitches inserted to his head he returned home. Thits morning, Michael Kemp Parangi, a Maori labourer, aged 19, appeared in the Police Court before Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., charged with breaking and entering by day on December 20 tna dwelling of Jeung Hing, and stealing a bottle of stout valued at 9d, and further with assaulting Jeung Hing so as to cause him actual bodily harm. On the application r o< 1 Sub-Inepector Pender, the accused was remartded until next Wednesday.
