HANDICAP TESTS.

Matches Commence To-day — Delay Caused By Rain.

With a splendid number of entries, the first day's play in the annual handicap tournament under the auspicee of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association commenced at Stanley Street shortly after 8.30 o'clock this morning. Among the entrants were many of the grass court top-graders. Country associations were, also well represented, particularly from Franklin and Huntly. Threatening weather in the early stages of the tournament turned to brief showers of rain, which interrupted play, and there was a further shower about noon which held play up for some time. The tournament is under the management of Mr. J. A. Fernandez, assisted by a capable committee.
