LATE SIR JAMES CARROLL. GIFT I'OR ART CiALLERY. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) GISBORXK, this day. After several months' work on the part of Mr. H. Linlcy I<K-har*l#oii, of l'alnierstoit North, the portrait ot the late Sir James Carroll has been completed and delivered to the com in l ".tee of Gisborne residents responsible for raising the funds. It is the intention of the committee to dispatch the portrait to Wellington within a few days for submission to the trustees of the National Art Gallery with a view to its acceptance as a contribution to the collection of studies of famous New Zealand public men.
The funds for the painting were all subscribed by Gisborne organisations and residents, with the exception of a few donations from men and women living in other parts of New Zealand.
