QUALITY OF WHEAT.
IMPROVING LOCAL CROPS. BONUS FOR MARQUIS VARIETY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON Tuesday. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. 6. Sullivan, announced to-day that, because in the past an insufficient quantity of Marquis wheat had ■been grown in New Zealand for blending ■with flour, the Wlheat Committee and the New Zealand Flourmillers' Society made arrangements for the importation and distribution of a quantity of speciallyselected seed from Canada. This w«s now being grown for seed purposes on selected North Canterbury farms, under the supervision of the Department of Agriculture.
In the meantime, Mr. Sullivan added, ' to encourage the sowing of a larger area of Marquis this spring the Wheat Comimittev, by arrangement with the Flouimillers' Society, had decided to pay for f.a.q. Marquis, ex the IWO harvest, <Jd a ibushel more than the price paid for Tuscan. The extra payment will in no way affect the price of flour.
