CONSUMPTION OF PETROL
MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL. Kxtra expense amounting to at least £328 14/ a veer ie expected by the Manukaii County Council as a result of the additional tax on petrol, according to a report submitted at to-day's ineet : ing of the council by the engineer, Mr. 1.. K. Utting. He stated that the minimum increase expected was based on the fact that 10,722 gallons were used in 193H-39. It wus expected that consumption would rise during the current year. Last month 2148 gallons were used, on which the new tax amounted to £40 10/. Application had been made to the Main Highway* Board for a compensating increase in the h'.c rutee allowed on the council's plant, but as nearly half the current year had expired and some county hire rates had already been increased, he suggested that no further action be taken for the present.
