CRAWFORD CUP FINAL.
SUCCESS OF YOUNG RIDERS
The annual trial for the Crawford Cup, conducted by the Auckland Motor Cycle Club, was decided on Sunday last over a series of observed sections in the Howick district. Twenty-nine entries were received for this event, and the standard of riding was very high. The competitors travelled in an orderly manner from one section to another, ami there was absolutely no sign of speeding or reckless behaviour.
The event finished at the well-known Takanini splash, which consists of a ride across and back through the Mahi.i stream, which was at the time considerably swollen, following the recent rains. The club captain, who struck a hidden bump, travelled sideways a full yard and a half down-stream before regaining his balance.
A feature of tlie event was the exceptional standard shown by one or two of the younger riders who have recently started in these events. One of the star performers was Ken Allport, on a H h.p. two-stroke James. This is only the fourth time that Ken has ridden : n a trial, but he was successful in gaining tliir place, while W. Kellyi(2so Triumph), on his lirst ride, was only two points behind. The weather was fine, with a light shower about three o'clock. The event resulted in a win for J. Phillips (.!")(» Velocette). lost 11 points, with J. l'orter (."»(M) Velocette), lost 12 points, 2; K. Albert (U James), lost 17 points, 3j and W. Kelly (250 Triumph), lost 19 points. 4. The monthly general meeting of the club will be held in the club rooms, opposite the Town Hall, at 8 o'clock to-night, and anyone interested in motor cycling is invited to attend.
