PROPOSAL SUPPORTED.
AUSTRALIAN-BUILT CARS.
The New South Wales Government strongly support* the proposal to manufacture complete motor cars in Australia. Some time ago it offered to provide Crown land for the erection of a factory and also to buy Australian made vehicles for its services if prices and quality were satisfactory. Authorities favour a plant capable of turning out from 2.-S.OOO to 30.00 chassis a year of a type suitable for popular priced cars and light trucks. Tt is estimated a. motor car could be btiilt in Australia to sell at £S">o. The Premier (Mr. Stevens i said the proposal would give employment to thousands of operatives and skilled workmen and opportunities in subsidiary trades. The industry would probably bring to Australia a number of skilled technicians, a most desirable type of immigrant.
