NO MORE FLOODING.

ROTORUA DRAINAGE. BUSINESS AREA SCHEME. MUNICIPAL BLOCK PROGRESS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, this day. The extensive storm -water drainage system to serve the business area of the town wae completed yesterday, and will obviate flooding which has caused much annoyance and inconvenience in previous years after heavy rain. Work hae been in progress for eomc time past, but as a result of line weather the workmen have been able to make very good progress. Some old channel- j ling and culverting still requires to be | filled in, but all of the new etormwater j ■piping has been laid and the necessary cesspits constructed. In some sections where the pipes passed through thermal •ground it was necessary to employ pipes specially constructed to resist thermal action. When this work is completed the council -workmen will commence construction of permanent bitumen footpaths in Malfroy Road, between Ranolf Avenue and Whaka Road, and along the east side of Ranolf Avenue between the Ainohau Street and Malfroy Road intersections. The resurfacing of a consider- i able length of footpaths in the borough w also being carried out. Another work which will result in improvement to the approach to Whafcarewarewa as the paving of the dec-king of the bridge leading io the thermal area and repairs to the woodwork. Good progress is being made with the contractors for the £40,000 municipal block, the majority of the foundation work now being completed. The erection of this building ha*, necessitated the removal of the majority of large macrocarpe, and pine trees which previously lined the town square. A number of smaller trees, however, are being left standing. *
